FRAGMENTS of ETERNITY

Cromatic vibrations between earth and water

PALAZZO GRANAFEI-NERVEGNA|BRINDISI-ITALY

From 09 December 2017 to 07 January 2018

Forms and the musical expressions of each time intertwine in the present, intoning a network of reflections of various cultures, which rarely overturn the primitive meaning in a continuous repetition of signs and suggestions.

The monumental spaces of Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna in Brindisi (XVI century), welcome the contemporary art project called FRAGMENTS of ETERNITY|Cromatic vibrations between earth and water,  a contemporary art exhibition, curated by Dores Sacquegna and promoted by Primo Piano LivinGallery as management.  The title of the exhibition is an ancient reminder, understood as the source of absolute values, beauty, harmony, perfection, measure, wisdom.  Values to be reinterpreted in a contemporary key.  The exhibition documents the activity of Italian and foreign artists engaged in a new reflection between contemporary and historical heritage, which tend to acquire figures and motifs of the archaeological and mythological imagination, filtered by an artistic vision related to the excellence of the territory.

The title of the exhibition is an ancient reminder, understood as the source of absolute values, beauty, harmony, perfection, measure, wisdom.  Values to be reinterpreted in a contemporary key.  The exhibition unfolds in a logical-critical and psycho-geographical pathway that recalls the places of universal synergies between earth and water, the relationship between ancient and contemporary, the lines of thought between sign and symbol, the enigma between fragment and uniqueness, the personal mapping between space perception and surrounding space, between micro and macro, archetype and individual story. An imaginary alphabet of one’s own domestic geography attributable to humanity, to the social reality in which we recognize, mirror, and converse. A journey into life, in color, between the boundaries of reality and fiction, in detail and in the fragment, following a shared and shared vision, open to the territory and the revaluation of the historical and archaeological heritage. A journey into the past and a landmark in contemporaneity, expressing a deep desire for inner change, a need for new experiences or a return to the origins.

An event that leads into the universe of signs, symbols, images and visual tales. The fragment is first of all the announcement of the border, recognition of identity at the very moment of its disappearance. It is poetic emotion as it is individuality. The ultimate sense of detail leads to the existential inquiry of the individual, to the awareness of his centrality in the new redefinition of the world. The detail is the mysterious face of an unmistakable truth, the impractical path of a reality just intuited. The contemporary artist’s approach is similar to that of an archaeologist. He brings to the discovery underground and stratified memories that may have emerged from strangely unknown aspects, unpublished traces, unstable landscapes, finds and shards of nature, memory appearances, new codes that spin the passage of time and pursuing the desire of the immortality. Visibly linked to the unshakable streams of reality, artistic action returns the icastic shape through discarded fragments, break-even balances, fading materials, divergent dynamics of thought, spatial abnormalities that produce new imaginative connections.

The separation of story plans overcomes the reference order of the signs, the structure of the representation is strongly crippled by turbulent tensions, the figures constantly change position, the urban visions become disoriented, the unstable forms are always in balance. The artist’s look is synthetic and sharp, appropriates iconographic sources to detach them from their context and make them live in their imaginary alphabet, vision shifts between details of nature and culture, archaic and contemporary symbols, chromatic vibrations suspended between earth and water , opposing atmospheres in search of balance. The palace hosting the exhibition can thus become a place of synthesis in its new role of open and culture center next to the institutional guardian of ancient finds; with archaeological documentation and contemporary works to create a bridge between archeology and contemporary art, between myth and present in a parallel historical dimension. Through the search for the balance between what was and what it might be, the contemporary art adds to the old new meanings, linked to the past traces, but responsive to the present needs and promotes deep understanding and active fruition.

In addition to the huge array of contemporary art, the event will again showcase the following special features including: Terrecromie ( live performance); Art Conversation ( video art & cinema); Visitor guide at exhibition &  archeological sites.
