Primo Piano LivinGallery
is pleased to present the contemporary art exhibition titled BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Roots, Loss and Landings
Curated by Dores Sacquegna
The exhibition will be on display from November 16 to 30, 2024 at the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce.
If there is an object capable of representing travel, it is indeed a suitcase. Because it is travel, freedom, but also detachment or exile. Two aspects that art has told in so many different ways especially in recent years, now that the classic suitcase, that square parallelepiped with a handle, no longer exists.
Travel holds metaphorical and emotional meanings depending on the historical context, personal journey, expectations and hopes of those who undertake it, but it has certainly always been felt as a decisive experience in the life of humanity, an adventure that is fascinating for some, tragic for others, but never indifferent.
Biography of a Traveler is a contemporary art exhibition that aims to investigate-through emotional, symbolic, social and anthropological aspects-the mechanisms of art’s ethical and political function, memory and experiences in our present.
In this context, three conceptual matrices are identified that constitute the exhibition’s subtitle, as if they were three identity acts of the human being and his journey through the landscape and perception of the world: Roots, Loss and Landings.
A journey that translates into the thought of Trans-forming, Trans-figuring and unifies in itself such opposing concepts as stillness and flowing, matter and the ineffable in defining boundaries and our very existence.
A wandering, fluid journey marked by landings that open to new auroras or expanses in which human being can lose his/herself and finally find his/herself. Each of your works will be the chapter of a story, the facet of a prism, a possible glimpse into hidden worlds.
A catalog with color images of the works, biographical notes of the artists and a critical text by the curator will be produced for the exhibition.
In addition, all works in the exhibition will be available for sale both in the Foundation’s physical space and online through Artsper’s art marketplace platform, with a personal page on each artist and the works for sale.
The interpretation of theme is free. Welcome national and international artists operating with all media.
