What does each residency project involve?
Our thematic projects have an artistic project, directed by our on-site curator. In addition to working on the proposed theme, group activities are planned, with excursions and guided visits to the most beautiful places in Salento between the Ionian and Adriatic sides. These excursions are created not only to raise awareness of the area but also to be inspired by it.
How much interaction will I have with staff during my residency?
The residency hosts the on-site curator who is available for any questions relating to your work. Furthermore, Primo Piano staff is present for all other needs.
How do you choose the theme each year?
The theme is based on research on environmental, artistic and social issues.
How do you choose the artists?
The selection of artists is based on the works created over the years but we also like to include artists who have a different background, to create new challenges and more particular projects.
I’m not a visual artist. Can I still apply?
We welcome applications from other creative practices including, but not limited to: curating, design, architecture, education, humanities and social sciences, performers, musicians and poets. We strongly encourage applicants with interdisciplinary and non-traditional creative practices.
Do you accept artists with disabilities?
Although some of our apartments are located on the ground floor, they are not entirely accessible to people with mobility problems (wheelchairs), because they have two or three steps to access the sleeping area.
