BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Radici, perdite e approdi

Si inaugura domenica 17 novembre alle ore 19:00 la mostra collettiva di arte contemporanea dal titolo BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Radici, perdite e approdi” curata da Dores Sacquegna. Organizzata Primo Piano LivinGallery e patrocinata dal comune di Lecce, la mostra avrà luogo dal 17 al 30 novembre presso la Fondazione Palmieri in Vico dei Sotterranei a Lecce. Catalogo in mostra.

LA MOSTRA

Il vero viaggio non consiste nel cercare nuove terre ma nell’avere nuovi occhi (Proust)

Attraverso i tre atti identitari di radici, perdite e approdi, l’evento si propone di indagare i meccanismi della funzione etica e politica dell’arte. Pensiero comune a tutti gli artisti è il Trans-formare e il Trans-figurare, che unifica in sé concetti opposti come l’immobilità e il fluire, la materia e l’ineffabile nel definire i confini e la nostra stessa esistenza. Qui la parola “viaggio” è intesa come un attraversamento dell’essere umano nel paesaggio della percezione. E’ sinonimo di libertà, di distacco, di esilio, di rinascita, di cura, di radici, di memoria. Aspetti che l’arte contemporanea ha raccontato in tanti modi diversi soprattutto negli ultimi anni. In mostra le testimonianze di sedici artisti contemporanei provenienti dagli Stati Uniti, l’Austria, il Lussemburgo, l’Iraq (per quanto riguarda gli artisti stranieri), in dialogo con i loro colleghi pugliesi. Una mostra pluridisciplinare che invita l’osservatore ad intraprendere un viaggio segnato dall’idea di “radice/origine”, di “perdita/vuoto”, offrendo spunti di “approdo/rinascita”. Un itinerario inebriante nell’arte e nel gusto grazie al sodalizio con due Aziende Agricole salentine tra degustazioni e drink welcome: Contino e Ferrara. Un evento in cui perdersi e infine ritrovarsi.

GLI ARTISTI E LE OPERE

La mostra si apre con le live performance di due artisti pugliesi: Massimiliano Manieri con “Ritorno a Gaza” e Nunzio Lobasso con “Sublimazioni”. Oltre a loro, Primo Piano presenta in anteprima nazionale il film “Iihya” (Rinascita), dell’artista e attivista medio-orientale Sama Alshaibi, con il capitolo conclusivo di “Silsila” (Connessione), un progetto iniziato nel 2009, dove la protagonista ha attraversato gli storici deserti e i corpi idrici del Nord Africa e del Medio Oriente. Il suo non è solo un ritorno dall’esilio, ma anche una rinascita e un dono ai fiumi, attraverso un rituale riparatore di giustizia spaziale e di eco-resilienza che presenta il potere dell’armonia e dell’equilibrio attraverso gesti di immaginazione poetica.

Spetta all’osservatore, decidere come iniziare il percorso: si potrebbe partire dalla memoria e dalla sua de-costruzione per riflettere sulle questioni di identità, tempo, storia, con le “visioni di una camera da letto” di Giovanni Felle o sedersi sul “tappeto volante” di Monica Lisi per conoscere la sua storia, prima di entrare nella camera delle meraviglie che Gianni Chiriatti ha allestito per tutti noi. L’idea di viaggio si misura con il concetto di comfort ovunque andiamo e che chiamiamo “casa” con Dena Haden.  Il percorso ci porterà nelle labirintiche “deviazioni cromatiche” di Nunzio Lobasso e lì cercheremo la luce tra matrici e algoritmi con Sara Mckenzie. Sperimenteremo l’equilibrio spezzato tra noi esseri umani e la natura con Massimo Ruiu e cercheremo la realtà nel sogno di Atlante di Claudio Rizzo. Di specchi e di riflessi è il viaggio che propone ai confini del tempo Sian Price e Marco Riha. L’arte, si sa è Trans-figurazione della realtà e nel Genius loci di Claudio Longo, incontreremo una sciamana che ci accompagnerà in un paesaggio fluido in cui il cielo si perde nel mare con Justine Giordano.  Danzeremo al ritmo del didgeridoo con Margot Reding-Schroeder e dopo esserci denudati della nostra bestialità del mondo inferiore, potremmo accedere al luogo di mezzo con le “pro-azioni” di Fernando Spano che insieme al dio Apollo, ci attenderà in cima dove finalmente potremmo godere del bene superiore. In questo mondo di visioni, i viaggiatori-artisti ti condurranno in luoghi inaspettati di riflessione…percorsi fluidi, visivi, sonori e poetici… dove la natura umana è imprevedibile e il tempo è irriverente!

BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Roots, Losses and Landings

Opening Sunday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. is the group exhibition of contemporary art entitled BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Roots, Losses and Landings, organized by Primo Piano LivinGallery at the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce, Italy.  The event, under auspices of the Municipality of Lecce, is curated by Dores Sacquegna. THE SHOW

The real journey is not in seeking new lands but in having new eyes (Proust)

Through the three identity acts of roots, losses and landings, the show aims to investigate, the mechanisms of the ethical and political function of art. Common thought of all artists is Trans-forming and Trans-figuring, which unifies opposite concepts such as stillness and flowing, matter and ineffable in defining boundaries and our very existence. Here the word “journey” is understood as a crossing of the human being in the landscape of perception. It stands for freedom, for detachment, for exile, for rebirth, for care, for roots, for memory. Aspects that contemporary art has recounted in so many ways especially in recent years. On display are the testimonies of sixteen contemporary artists from the United States, Austria, Luxembourg, and Iraq (as far as foreign artists are concerned), in dialogue with their Apulian colleagues. A multidisciplinary exhibition that invites the viewer to embark on a journey marked by the idea of “root/origin,” of “loss/empty,” offering cues of “landing/rebirth.” An intoxicating itinerary in art and taste thanks to the partnership with two Salento farms between tastings and welcome drinks: Azienda Agricola Contino and Azienda Agricola Ferrara. An event in which to lose oneself and finally find oneself.

ARTISTS AND WORKS

The exhibition opens with live PERFORMANCES by two artists from Puglia, MASSIMILIANO MANIERI with “Return to Gaza” and NUNZIO LOBASSO with “Sublimations.” In addition to them, Primo Piano presents the national premiere of the film “Iihya” (Rebirth), by Middle Eastern artist and activist SAMA ALSHAIBI, with the closing chapter of “Silsila” (Connection), a project begun in 2009, crisscrossing the historic deserts and water bodies of North Africa and the Middle East. The protagonist’s return is not only one from exile but also a revival and gifting back to the rivers. A restorative ritual of spatial justice and eco-resilience, the video presents the power of harmony and balance through gestures of poetic imagination.

It’s up to you, the visitor, to decide where to start your journey: you could start from memory and its de-construction to reflect on questions of identity, time, history, with GIOVANNI FELLE’s “visions of a bedroom” or sit on MONICA LISI’s “flying carpet” to learn about her story, before entering the Wunderkammer that GIANNI CHIRIATTI has set up for you. The idea of travel is measured by the concept of comfort wherever we go and that we call “home” with DENA HADEN. Your path will take you into the labyrinthine “chromatic deviations” by NUNZIO LOBASSO and you will search for light among matrices and algorithms with SARA McKENZIE.

You will experience the broken balance between you and nature with MASSIMO RUIU and search for reality in CLAUDIO RIZZO’s Dream of Atlas. Of mirrors and reflections is the journey that SIAN PRICE and MARCO RIHA offer you at the boundaries of time. Art, you know, is Trans-figuration of reality, and in CLAUDIO LONGO’s Genius loci, you will meet a shaman who will accompany you in a fluid landscape where the sky is lost in the sea with JUSTINE GIORDANO. You will dance to the rhythm of the didgeridoo with MARGOT REDING-SCHROEDER and after shedding your bestiality in the lower world, you will access the middle world with FERNANDO SPANO’s “pro-actions” that together with the god Apollo, will await you at the top where you can finally enjoy the higher Good.

In this world of visions, we offer you unexpected places of reflection…fluid, visual, sonic and poetic paths…where human nature is unpredictable, and time is irreverent!
