Dores spero che tu riesca a riposare. Hai fatto un lavoro straordinario con il programma e mettendo insieme un gruppo di artisti così talentuosi e generosi. Sono onorata di averne fatto parte e di aver imparato/visto di più della Puglia. E naturalmente grazie mille per tutto il tempo e l’energia che avete dedicato al mio problema di salute. Ero così stanca a volte durante le nostre meravigliose passeggiate ed escursioni insieme – e ho apprezzato il vostro aiuto e la vostra pazienza nell’aspettarmi o nel prestarmi una mano o una spalla su cui riposare. Anche se ora sono stanca dopo il lungo volo di ritorno, mi sento rigenerata da ognuno di voi – artisti speciali/persone speciali – e dagli infiniti sforzi di Dores per creare questa incredibile esperienza – unendo natura e arte – nel Salento – per noi. Le Pietre Sacre del Salento mi hanno chiamato dalla mia casa di Santa Fe e mi sono avventurata nella caverna della mia psiche per riscrivere il mito dominante. A casa mia, gli indigeni raccontano la storia di come la donna ragno abbia tessuto il primo alfabeto. Ora ho incontrato il ragno qui come danza della Tarantella. Il mio progetto di residenza è iniziato come un dipinto su tela, poi strappato in strisce. Ho intrecciato i dipinti in un nuovo paradigma. I colori rappresentano frequenze che corrispondono ad aspetti delle stagioni, delle direzioni e delle ore del giorno. La cornice finale permette allo spettatore di guardare attraverso la tessitura attuale e di iniziare a raccontare un nuovo mito personale. Grazie per tutto quello che hai fatto per noi, Dores! Dores, spero che vi siate ripresi dalla Residenza delle Pietre Sacre del Salento. Ho elaborato le mie esperienze e voglio che sappiate quanto vi sono grata. Il tempo trascorso alla residenza è stato un dono incommensurabile. Le spedizioni in luoghi così significativi, storici e pieni di meraviglie mi hanno cambiato la vita. Quello che offrite è degno e necessario. Ho curato decine di mostre pubbliche e so quanto possa essere impegnativo. Quando ci siamo incontrati per la prima volta, sono stato coinvolto in una profonda conversazione con lei, che ha espresso la sua passione nell’ispirare gli artisti a essere creativi attraverso il loro legame con la natura, la comunità e il luogo. In seguito, sfogliando i suoi cataloghi, ho capito che lei è un curatore estremamente dotata e di livello mondiale. Mi è parso evidente che lei desiderava vivere le esperienze migliori per tutti noi, ma come lei sa, non è mai possibile accontentare tutti. Amo l’arte che ho creato durante il soggiorno. L’ispirazione per la mia installazione è nata a Lecce. Il motivo floreale a 6 lati che ho ritagliato dalle tende di carta era tratto da un’antica incisione dei Cavalieri Templari, trovata sulla parete del Museo Faggiano. Il simbolo indicava che si era entrati in un luogo sacro e sicuro. Il mio uso ha ampliato il suo significato al di fuori del cristianesimo, per comunicare che le nostre esperienze nella natura sono sacre. Per favore, non cambiate mai il vostro programma a causa della rigida fede di qualcuno nella propria religione. Questo toglie valore all’esperienza di tutti gli altri, e ogni connessione sacra con la Terra ha un valore immediato. Il vostro lavoro è bellissimo. (USA – 19 Luglio 2023)

Mi è piaciuto molto partecipare a questa esperienza di residenza. Ho incontrato altri artisti e mi sono divertita molto, ma anche rilassata. Il mare dalle vostre parti è spettacolare, così come il cibo e l’alloggio forniti. Sono molto grata per tutto il lavoro che avete fatto prima, durante e dopo questo progetto e per me ne è valsa la pena! ( Olanda – 5 Settembre 2022)

I became so tired sometimes during our wonderful walks and excursions together – and ! appreciate your help and patience in waiting for me or lending a hand ir shoulder to rest on. Although I am tired now after the long flight home – I feel regenerated by each and all of you – special artists/ special people – and by Dores’ endless efforts to create this amazing experience – joining nature and art – in Salento – for us. The Sacred Stones of Salento called me from my home in Santa Fe, and I have ventured into the cave of my psyche to rewrite the prevailing myth. In my home, the Indigenous people tell the story how spider woman wove the first alphabet. Now I have encountered the spider here as the dance of Tarantella. My project in the residency, began as a painting on canvas and was then ripped into strips. I have woven the paintings into a new paradigm. The colors represent frequencies that corelate to aspects of the seasons, directions and times of day. The final frame allows the viewer to look through the current weaving and begin to tell a new personal myth. For all that you have done for us, Dores!( USA – September 7, 2023)

Dores, I hope you have recovered from the Sacred Stones of Salento Residency. I have been processing my experiences, and want you to know how grateful I am. My time at the residency was an immeasurable gift. The expeditions to such significant, historic and wonder filled places was life changing. What you offer is worthy, and necessary. I have curated dozens of public exhibitions, and know how challenging it can be When we first met, I was drawn into a deep conversation with you, as you expressed your passion for inspiring artists to be creative through their connection to nature, community and place. Later, I looked through your catalogues and realized you are an extremely gifted, world class, curator. It was obvious to me that you wished for the best experiences for us all, but as you know, it is never possible to please everyone. I love the art I created while there. The inspiration for my installation began in Lecce. The 6 sided flower pattern I cut out of the paper curtains was from an ancient carving by the Knights Templar, found on the wall of the Museo Faggiano. The symbol conveyed that one had entered a sacred and safe place. My use expanded its meaning outside of Christianity, to convey that our experiences in nature are sacred. And please never change your agenda because of someone’s strict belief in their religion. That takes away from the experience for everyone else, and any sacred connection to Earth has immeasurable valuable. Your work is beautiful. (USA – 19 July 2023)

I really enjoyed participating in this residency experience. I met other artists and had a lot of fun but also relaxed. The sea in your neck of the woods is spectacular, as is the food and lodging provided. I am very grateful for all the work you did before, during and after this project and for me it was worth it!
